The „Through the City Labyrinth“ game was designed for use in schools, organizations working with children and youth, child-caring institutions and other leisure time institutions.

Can be also used:

  • to evaluate the impact of primary prevention activities
  • (to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the Minimal programme of primary prevention in schools – as defined by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports)
  • to draw attention to the at-risk groups or individuals, who might be in need of further intervention in either selective or indicated primary prevention
  • to train social and communicative skills

The game was developed by a team of prefessionals in the field of primary prevention of risk behaviour.

„Through the City Labyrinth“ is an interactive board game whose main focus is the primary prevention of risk behaviour. This methodological instrument can be used by teachers and child-caring professionals working with children and youth in the age range of 10 to 17 or more.

What are the rules of the game?

The aim of the game is to get by all the places in the city and gain as many points (chips) as possible by answering questions and fulfilling the tasks given by the playing cards. Playing time varies in relation to the size of the group and/or the number of players. If there are ten or more players, we recommend to set the playing time to 2 lessons (90 minutes). However, playing time can be set up to reflect the situation and suit your needs.

The „Through the City Labyrinth“ game can be used to evaluate the impact of primary prevention activities (through identifying strengths and weaknesses of the Minimal programme of primary prevention in schools). It can also serve as a tool to assess the current state of all the risk behaviour factors among a class and can thus indicate the at-risk group or individuals, who can then be given the appropriate attention. The game helps teachers and pupils to discover topics, which can be followed up later on in classes or in primary prevention programmes, and at the same time provides a space to test the students‘ knowledge and practise the acquired skills.

The mission of the game

The „Through the City Labyrinth“ game was not designed to replace the primary prevention programme, but to become a part of primary preventive activities. It can be used to evaluate the impact of primary prevention activities (through identifying strengths and weaknesses of the Minimal programme of primary prevention in schools). It can also serve as a tool to assess the current state of all the risk behaviour factors among a class and can thus indicate the at-risk group or individuals, who might be in need of further intervention in either selective or indicated primary prevention.

The „Through the City Labyrinth“ game can also be used by families, organizations working with children and youth, child-caring institutions and other leisure time institutions. Playing the game improves the knowledge of various factors of risk behaviour, while fulfilling the game tasks is a great practise of social and communication skills. Furthermore, the game opens a space for discussion, education and exchange of information on the topics of risk behaviour. It helps to clarify the myths and maximize the positive impact on the target group.
